Openspiral is the home of Chicago-based interactive designer Ethan Smith. For over a decade he has been practicing interactive design and user experience. Over the course of his career Ethan has fulfilled the roles of visual designer, front-end developer, information architect, strategist, art/creative director, consultant and project manager for a collection of agencies and clients (both big and small) in California, New York and Chicago.
In addition to his freelance and agency track record, Ethan has served as a digital design faculty member for colleges in both the public and for-profit sectors. His topics covered include 2D fundamentals, web design fundamentals, advanced digital design and digital imaging techniques.
His body of work includes clients such as 3M, The American Library Association, Canyon Ranch, Chick-Fil-A, Custo Barcelona, Discovery Communications, Fox Searchlight Studios, The Joffrey Ballet, Lowe’s, MasterCard, Quintiles Transnational, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Sub Zero/Wolf, TurboChef Technologies, Weber Grills, Wells Fargo and Xerox Corporation.
His work has appeared in the Communication Arts Interactive Annual, Webby Awards, IMAs and WebAwards from the Web Marketing Association.
Ethan holds an MA in multimedia as well as bachelors degrees in both visual arts and music.
His current post is Creative Director at Gorilla, an E-commerce agency in Chicago.
